When I was a kid I was taught that the rainforests were largely responsible for the heavy rainfall in their areas. Cutting down rainforests causes drought where they used to be because the forest is no longer there to hold water and trigger rainfall.
We need to learn to love our forests and other plant communities better

We were taught about 'evapotranspiration' when I was a child in the 1980s. Deserts = hot and dry, Rainforests = cool and wet (compared to deserts at the same latitude and altitude). Interesting that plants produce a chemical to increase rainfall.

Literally none of this is new information
That is a small fraction of how trees moderate climatic conditions.
Who would have thought that billions of years of evolution would have produced a plethora of species with highly nuanced and varied functions that contribute to and benefit the system on both the micro and macro scale.
Research into this and development of various agroforestry systems that have myriad benefits has been going on for DECADES.
We are already in a position to produce massive positive change environmentally, economically, socially and yes climatically without even needing to use genetic engineering or ridiculous superstructures.
The funding and media exposure just doesn't go there. Socially and politically people want sexy buzzwords like "turpines", what they don't want to do is get dirt under their fingernails or be exposed to a bit of physical labour and the elements whilst actually getting out there and being a part of it.
The figureheads pushing the technological route forward are the same ones that are directly responsible for radically reducing genetic diversity across the biome.
A fraction of the funding spent on "messiah" technologies would be more than enough to make more change than all the COP policies combined.
Nature is intelligent. “The Happening” is a real possibility. Open your eyes Humans!
