How I Learn Any Language in 24 Hours

I make lots of videos surprising people with my "perfect" Chinese (Mandarin, Cantonese, and Fuzhounese) and because lots of people have been asking about it, I wanted to make a video discussing my language learning methods, particularly how I rapidly acquire the ability to have a basic conversation in pretty much any language (in yes, 24 hours or less). This definitely isn't fluency but it's a great building block to becoming fluent and an excellent way to start your language learning journey. If you want to skip ahead to the part where I talk about how to learn any language in 24 hours (avoiding my Mandarin-learning backstory in China), click to go ahead to 3:42. Speaking 6 Languages! How to Learn Languages and Become Multilingual?

Speaking 6 languages to tell my story about how I learned Finnish, German, English, Swedish, Japanese & Chinese. I love languages so I wanted to share my thoughts on how to learn languages and become multilingual. Ep 24⬇See more below⬇ Finnish language is my mother tongue. Finnish is so rare that one has to learn foreign languages to survive. :D German language is my first foreign language and I am learning German again after a long break, since I currently live in Berlin. Learning English has always been somewhat challenging for me, but after living abroad it has become easier. I have also learned a little Swedish, but the most passionate I am about Japanese language and Chinese language. After learning Japanese I thought it would be fun to learn Chinese as well. Nowadays, I can speak Chinese more fluently than Japanese. Learning Japanese and learning Chinese are quite different from how to learn English, but that’s what makes learning languages fun. I don’t know if I could call myself a polyglot, but it would be great if one day I could become truly multilingual or a polyglot speaking multiple languages fluently. I hope this video inspires you to learn languages, since learning languages is so much fun! * MUSIC: Rock Angel by Joakim Karud 🤍 Creative Commons — Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported— CC BY-SA 3.0 🤍 Music promoted by Audio Library 🤍 * Hi! How I Learned to Speak 15 Languages in One Year

Today I’m talking about how I learned to speak 15 languages in one year. Am I the world’s greatest polyglot or is this video just massive clickbait? Well, the reality is that it is impossible to learn to speak 15 languages fluently in one year, but I’ll show you how I was able to have basic conversations (and genuine fluency in one case) in these languages after one year. Well I’ve got good news, it’s actually very simple. Some things are easy but very tedious.. Well learning a language is the opposite. It’s not quick, it’s not easy... but it’s not complex, it's just a habit. So I’m going to lay out 3 things that if you do for long enough, frequently enough, will lead you to fluency in a foreign language. The first and most important step is to immerse in the language. In language learning immersing doesn’t necessarily mean living in a country where that language is spoken – it means spending time listening to it and reading it. So to learn a language, it’s not complicated. It’s simple it takes time. Immerse which means get the language into your eyes and ears. Challenge yourself – go big, and rally behind your own cause, and finally, learn something through the language. Do those things in decent amounts for long enough, and you will become fluent in your new language. OK if you've reached the end of the description then you need something to do. Dr. Eddie Chang: The Science of Learning & Speaking Languages | Huberman Lab Podcast #95

My guest is Eddie Chang, MD, a neurosurgeon and professor of neurological surgery at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and the co-director of the Center for Neural Engineering & Prostheses. We discuss the brain mechanisms underlying speech, language learning and comprehension, communicating human emotion with words and hand gestures, bilingualism and language disorders, such as stuttering. Dr. Chang also explains his work developing and applying state-of-the-art technology to decode speech and using that information and artificial intelligence (AI) to successfully restore communication to patients who have suffered paralyzing injuries or “locked in syndrome.” We also discuss his work treating patients with epilepsy. Finally, we consider the future: how modern neuroscience is overturning textbook medical books, the impact of digital technology such as smartphones on language and the future of natural and computer-assisted human communication. #HubermanLab #Science #Neuroscience Thank you to our sponsors AG1 (Athletic Greens): 🤍 Levels: 🤍 Eight Sleep: 🤍 InsideTracker: 🤍 Supplements from Momentous 🤍 Huberman Lab Premium 🤍 Social & Website Instagram: 🤍 Twitter: 🤍 Facebook: 🤍 TikTok: 🤍 LinkedIn: 🤍 Website: 🤍 Newsletter: 🤍 Dr. Eddie Chang Support research in the Chang Laboratory: 🤍 Dr. Chang’s lab: 🤍 Academic profile & publications: 🤍 UCSF clinical profile: 🤍 Articles Neuroprosthesis for Decoding Speech in a Paralyzed Person with Anarthria: 🤍 Articles in the News Tapping Into the Brain to Help a Paralyzed Man Speak: 🤍 How Brain-Computer Interfaces Could Restore Speech and Help Fight Depression: 🤍 Decoded Brain Signals Could Give Voiceless People A Way To Talk: 🤍 Timestamps 00:00:00 Dr. Eddie Chang, Speech & Language 00:03:00 Levels, Eight Sleep, InsideTracker, Momentous Supplements 00:07:19 Neuroplasticity, Learning of Speech & Environmental Sounds 00:13:10 White Noise Machines, Infant Sleep & Sensitization 00:17:26 Mapping Speech & Language in the Brain 00:24:26 Emotion; Anxiety & Epilepsy 00:30:19 Epilepsy, Medications & Neurosurgery 00:33:01 Ketogenic Diet & Epilepsy 00:34:56 AG1 (Athletic Greens) 00:36:10 Absence Seizures, Nocturnal Seizures & Other Seizure Types 00:41:08 Brain Areas for Speech & Language, Broca’s & Wernicke’s Areas, New Findings 00:53:23 Lateralization of Speech/Language & Handedness, Strokes 00:59:05 Bilingualism, Shared Language Circuits 01:01:18 Speech vs. Language, Signal Transduction from Ear to Brain 01:12:38 Shaping Breath: Larynx, Vocal Folds & Pharynx; Vocalizations 01:17:37 Mapping Language in the Brain 01:20:26 Plosives & Consonant Clusters; Learning Multiple Languages 01:25:07 Motor Patterns of Speech & Language 01:28:33 Reading & Writing; Dyslexia & Treatments 01:34:47 Evolution of Language 01:37:54 Stroke & Foreign Accent Syndrome 01:40:31 Auditory Memory, Long-Term Motor Memory 01:45:26 Paralysis, ALS, “Locked-In Syndrome” & Brain Computer Interface (BCI) 02:02:14 Neuralink, BCI, Superhuman Skills & Augmentation 02:10:21 Non-Verbal Communication, Facial Expressions, BCI & Avatars 02:17:35 Stutter, Anxiety & Treatment 02:22:55 Tools: Practices for Maintaining Calm Under Extreme Demands 02:31:10 Zero-Cost Support, YouTube Feedback, Spotify & Apple Reviews, Sponsors, Momentous Supplements, Huberman Lab Premium, Neural Network Newsletter, Social Media Huberman Lab is for general informational purposes only and does not constitute the practice of medicine, nursing or other professional health care services, including the giving of medical advice, and no doctor/patient relationship is formed.
